Naming Ceremony for “Dr and Mrs Allen Shi Lop Tak Lecture Theatre”

In appreciation of the generous donation from Dr and Mrs Allen Shi Lop-tak, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has named a lecture theatre as “Dr and Mrs Allen Shi Lop Tak Lecture Theatre”, for which a naming ceremony was held on campus on 16 March.

The naming ceremony was officiated by Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, Secretary for Transport and Housing of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of EdUHK; Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak, Chairman of Brilliant International Group, and his wife, Mrs Kimmy Shi Ngan King-lin. Guests of the event also included Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, Secretary for Education and Dr Constance Chan Hon-yee, Director of the Department of Health. More than 200 guests, philanthropists, friends and associates turned up at the naming ceremony to show their support, marking it as a grand occasion.

Prof. Stephen Cheung thanked Dr and Mrs Allen Shi Lop-tak for their great support for EdUHK. He said, “This generous donation demonstrated that Dr and Mrs Allen Shi acknowledged the unique role that EdUHK has played in teacher education. As always, EdUHK will hold fast to our mission in nurturing educators and social leaders to become intellectually active, socially caring, and globally aware, so that they can serve the communities and bring about changes.”

The modern world undergoes rapid development and each passing day sees new changes in knowledge, what our young people need is quality education. Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak and Mrs Kimmy Shi Ngan King-lin expressed their collective views, “We are happy to be actively engaged in social welfare matters and are committed to promoting and supporting the positive development of our youth. We are confident that through nurturing and caring, we will be able to bring up a new generation capable of opening up a great future for Hong Kong.”

They continued to say that the donation was a humble effort made for the cause of higher education, hoping that it could help EdUHK provide quality learning environment to bring up proactive teachers in pursuit of excellence, so that high-quality education will pass the torch on, making a contribution in Hong Kong’s education sector and long-term social development.

Dr and Mrs Allen Shi Lop Tak Lecture Theatre is located in Block D1 (D1-LP-03). With nearly 200 seats and equipped with teaching facilities and projector, it serves the purposes in teaching, workshops and seminars.
